We can't go outside and look for everything anymore. I think that's been the way that we've always done it before, to look outside. Look outside for energy meaning, have the utility company supply it. Look outside for security, meaning, have the government or the army or whoever supply it. Look outside for love. We can't do that any more. It isn't working.
. . .[Going inside] answers everything, because it opens the door to relationship. Although we have tried forever, we can't go into relationship through a closed door. In order to be in relationship with each other we need to first be in relationship to ourselves. And that is the door that we must open. Ron LaPlace

Ron LaPlace is a Flower of Life facilitator from Alberta, Canada. I first met Ron in Arizona during our training as Flower of Life facilitators. I quickly became interested in his knowledge and experience in alternative energy technology, as well as his bright and loving spirit. He lives what he talks about, and to me that is a sign of true knowledge.
Rae: Hi, Ron. Thank you for all your efforts in the making of this article. Would you please describe a little bit about your background in particular how you became involved with alternative energy technology?
Ron: First and foremost, I now consider myself a Flower of Life facilitator. That really is my life at this time in terms my "work." This is my passion and my joy.
However, there are many aspects to life. And beginning in 1978 for many years previous to becoming a Flower of Life facilitator I worked with alternative energies. That was when I purchased the first solar panel that I experimented with and had so much fun with.
I learned a lot, and found it to be such an interesting technology that later that year we became the first home to be solar powered in Canada. Before that, I had built a home out in the country, wanting to live off the land. I guess you could say I'm an old hippie with very short hair!
This home in the country was not connected to the utility company, and I was living in a very simple fashion. However, having been raised in the city, I was aware very aware of all the modern conveniences, and I wanted some of them. So being able to provide independent electricity from such an amazing technology as solar power, in a place that could be considered rather remote, was a very attractive scenario.
Soon, as I realized that other people wanted access to this technology, it became a business, and eventually a distributorship for products in partnership with a company in California. For a number of years, it was very time-consuming.
During the mid-1990s, the technology started to catch on in a big way, and it's taking off more every day because it's so needed. But despite this resurgence, that business started to wind down for me at this time.
I still maintain contact with the business. I still do work in it from time to time because I maintain an interest in alternative energies like solar power or wind energy. I've also done a great deal of work with retrofitting petroleum-fueled generators in the remote parts of Canada so that they are much more efficient, and combining them with other technology, such as wind or solar. But there was a crossroads. The spiritual part of my life, that I had nurtured for many years, became more and more prominent.
Rae: What kind of generators are you using for this type of application?
Ron: We're using the old technology where you put diesel fuel or gasoline or propane into a generator and it bangs away. It's a mechanical device that provides electricity. But that's the way the world operates in large part in remote areas, Rae.
Through all of this, I've also been aware for many years of the work that was done as much as a hundred years ago by Nikola Tesla, and the work done by others in more recent times. Over the years, many have worked with technology that we call "overunity" or free energy.
The word "free" here means being able to take advantage of the energy of the Universe. Many of us are familiar with universal energy as chi, ki, prana, ether, or tachyon. These words all describe this Universal energy.
Rae: Would you define the term "overunity" or is that the same as free energy?
Ron: The concept of overunity involves breaking what most of what mankind believes are the laws of physics. It means that you get more energy out of a device than you put in. [Ed. note: the extra energy does have to come from somewhere, of course either from the vacuum, in the case of zero-point technology, or from the energy liberated by electrochemical processes, as in cold fusion and Brown's-gas technologies.]
Rae: Would you discuss the different categories of alternative energy?
Ron: Alternative energy includes solar power, wind power and thermo-electric power. Thermo-electric power, perhaps a new term for some, is a very simple technology that uses a flame to create a temperature difference, and a voltage and current between an anode and a cathode.
I also mentioned petroleum-fueled generators, and I realize that doesn't sound like alternative energy, but we use them in a particular way. Instead of running them for twenty-four hours a day, we turn them into battery chargers. That way, they can run for a few hours at a time, and at a relatively high efficiency, and then be shut down. This is called cycle charging.
When I design a system with alternative energy, it will most often include a combination of two or more technologies, including solar power, wind power, thermo-electric power, and cycle charging.
Rae: Are you are totally off the grid where you're at right now?
Ron: Yes. Our home and business are operated totally off the grid. There is no utility line into our place.
Rae: Living off the grid most certainly has a positive and profound effect on Mother Earth. Is there any effect in particular that you would like to describe?
Ron: First, when you are your own power company when there is no other resource to fall back on you become very aware and conscious of what energy is, how you use energy and how you live with it.
Becoming conscious of external energy resources is, I think, a wonderful metaphor for what we need to do in all aspects of our lives. We need to become aware and conscious of all energy, not just electricity. When we live that way, we become aware of what it is to conserve, or what it is to waste. And I think that can lead to a natural door that we come to in all aspects of life.
You can work with energy in an outer way and an inner way. When you work with yourself, you're also working with energy, and at some point you need to become aware and conscious of the energy in your body and the energy of Spirit. Living "off the grid" is just another way of arriving at that point. When you're living that way, there can be a real connection with Mother Earth, because the door is open to being conscious and aware.
Rae: As you live and work in this way, do you find that energy is conscious? I'm thinking now of Emoto's work with the messages of water and water crystals. For example, expressing a simple "thank you" to the water, changes its form from chaos into a beautiful crystalline pattern [see Conscious Water Crystals, and More Messages from Water in previous issues]. I am wondering if electricity might be conscious in this same manner?
Ron:In my opinion, everything is conscious. You are what you think, and everything you're in personal relationship with becomes what you think. So it becomes what you are.
I think this unity between what we are and what we think is in large part the message we're hearing from so many people these days, Drunvalo included. We have to realize that electricity, like all energy, is a product of our thought. Therefore, the most important thing is to be conscious and aware.
Rae: Would you say becoming conscious and aware is the first step in incorporating any kind of alternative energy into one's life style?
Ron: Yes. I would absolutely say that. Many times, in working with alternative energy, people find that the hardest part is actually to become conscious and aware of how they use energy. Many want to just open the door of their home and turn on a light or the TV and not have to think about anything. Well, okay, that's one way to do it. The other way is to be conscious and aware.
That doesn't mean that you have to work at it all the time. It simply means that you choose to be part of the system, so that you're in relationship with it.
That word "relationship" is a really important one to me. It describes what we need to be with everything, not just our power system, but with everyone and everything in the world. We need to be in relationship to it. That denotes once again being conscious and aware.
Rae: As you describe this being in relationship to everything, the words that come to mind are "unity consciousness."
Ron: Well, thank you for that. Unity is a word that we need to become familiar with. And the only way to do that is through relationship.
The other point I would like to make is that the next step in the progress of energy, as it relates to electricity or as it relates to mankind, is free energy. As I've already said, this free energy technology has existed for over a century here on earth. Products have been working and have been created that do this already.
For many years of my life, I was very upset mad, call it what you like that this technology was not available. It has been kept from mankind. If you want to look further into this, there is lots of literature available that discusses the secret government and how technology has been held back from mankind.
However, at some point I realized that really none of this could change until we became ready.
Free energy technology, as wonderful as it sounds, can be the savior of mankind or the end of mankind. In free energy, essentially, is all power.
Rae: This this is all about remembering who we are and remembering how powerful we are.
Ron: Oh, yes, that's what it's all about. So there's no need to get upset or angry at someone else about any of this. There is a need is for us to become conscious and aware of who we are. When we do, then free energy can be on this earth. Then other helpful technology that has been developed for healing Mother, such as the work that is being done with water, can also take its place in our lives.
We make it happen by becoming conscious and aware. So part of my message is to stop worrying about what others have done to us. Instead, let's change this by doing it for ourselves.
Rae: I think what you're saying is profound, and I am whole-heartedly in agreement with you, Ron. What you just said seems to apply to every aspect of our lives.
Ron: Yes, absolutely. We're discussing just one small aspect called alternative and free energy, and ways of living off the grid. But it really is everything. Because nothing is separate. Everything is linked.
Rae: Do you think doing this all ourselves is where we're headed? What other choices are there?
Ron: The choices, I think, are few. This was part of the energy I felt around the experience of September 11. We've come to a time now in the world where we have to make a choice. Do we live in the past and the future? Or do we live in the now?
If we live in the now, we become conscious and aware of what is. If we want to live in the now, we can change everything in a moment. If we stay in the past, or if we stay in the future, then we separate ourselves from the now.
Rae: Ron, how does Love relate to all of this? We talked about chi and prana, and it's my understanding that these are in true reality the essence of Love.
Ron: I think it's all Love. But the thing is, we either are in relationship with Love, or we are not. The only way to be in relationship is to be conscious and aware, and the only way to be conscious and aware is to be in the moment.
Love is always there. The question is, are we in relationship with it or are we not.
That was the message that I got on September 11. We need to be here now, and to know it. That way we can be in relationship with each other. There will be no peace until there's first peace in our own hearts. In our hearts first, and then the world. It can't be the other way around.
Rae: Back to what you were saying about being in the now. It's my interpretation that any kind of change can take place only in the now, because if you're in the past you're working with memories and illusion, and if you're working in the future, once again, that's illusion and projection. Would you say that "now" is the only place that we can actually make a change?
Ron: Absolutely. Once again, now is the only place that we can have relationship that's real. Everything else either has been or is a projection or illusion, as you say. Now is the only way to be in relationship, and that's what we need, we need relationship.
Rae: I'm going to turn the corner a little bit on this Ron. I'm wondering about the person who is conscious and aware. What might be a first practical step toward incorporating alternative energy technology into a way of life?
Ron: There is no right way for everyone. And the right way for each one is in his or her own heart. There are a million books that describe the right way, whether it's for all or one. I know there's a book or a teacher for everyone. The only way to find that book or that teacher is in your own heart. That's the first step, to go into your own heart and to be honest and to be in relationship with yourself.
We can't go outside and look for everything anymore. That's the way that we've always done it befor look outside for energy, meaning, have the utility company supply it. Look outside for security, meaning, have the government or the army or whoever supply it. Look outside for love. We can't do that any more. It isn't working.
Rae: We sure gave it our best try, though, didn't we?
So looking within the heart and being aware really serve the whole and answer so many questions.
Ron: It answers everything, because it opens the door to relationship. Although we have tried forever, we can't go into relationship through a closed door. In order to be in relationship with each other we need to first be in relationship to ourselves. And that is the door that we must open.
Even with something as simple and mundane as alternative energy, it's always been my practice to try to open that door so that people become conscious and aware of what they're doing. Instead of wasting power, you become conscious of how you use it. When you do waste it, at least you're conscious of it. Then it becomes your choice. I think that's really why we came here in the first place, so that we would know that at some point we have a choice.
Rae: We've been getting a few of those choices in our face recently, haven't we?
Ron: Yes, and the time of avoiding those choices is gone. Try to move away from it, and guess what? You turn around, and it's in your face.
Rae: Do you have a final word of advice for our readers?
Ron: Yes, I would really like to see people become less hard on themselves. More loving of themselves. I think it is only from there that we can build a bridge into this consciousness and awareness of relationship with ourselves and with others. Loving ourselves, being tolerant of ourselves, opens the door to everything else.
